look forward to a potential world title fight for the famous
green belt in the new year.

Frank Maloney/VIP Promotions have added 4 more title fights to
the show with a quality undercard to make it the best boxing
event for a very long time in the UK .

RESULTS FROM 1ST AUGUST AT
COLNE MUNICIPAL HALL
Another sell out VIP show at this
great venue produced a cracking show
ALISTAIR WARREN – The Chris Aston
trained scrapper beat Davy Jones on points after dominating the
majority of the contest with a high work rate.
SHAYNE SINGLETON – The Colne ticket
seller got a stoppage win on his pro debut against Jason Thompson.
With a huge following in his home town Shayne was a bit tense at
first but soon relaxed working behind double jabs and sent the crowd
while with a barrage of punchers in the 5th which saw the
referee jump in.
STEPHEN JENNINGS – After 102 amateur
contests - including a narrow 16-14 loss against Devon Alexander
when fighting for England v USA - he took the pro game very Quickly
catching Carl Allen with great hooks to both body and head . The
veteran had to use all his experience to over come the early
onslaught and had minor success himself when Stephen faded a little
in the last round , but it was an impressive debut overall.
TERRY FLANAGAN – Keeps improving with
every fight and moved to 3-0 with a points win over Michael O’Gara
who gave his all in a very entertaining fight that saw Terry require
3 stitches after a had clash. Terry always had the edge in speed and
class but was pushed all the way by a game competitor who charged
forward at every opportunity.
CHRIS OBRIEN – Fight of the night saw
Chris draw with William Warburton in a contest that swung from round
to round in non stop action . Chris won the opener but walked onto a
uppercut in the 2nd which nearly had him over and he did
well to hold and get through the round. The following rounds were
all close but Chris earned at least the draw with a good closing
round despite being nutted and finishing the last minute with blood
running in his face – 7 stitches were required.
STUART McFADYEN –Got a good 4 round
out against the tough Sid Razak in a fight he completely dominated
for 3 rounds before having a free for all in the fourth which the
crowd loved. Stuart will next fight Jamie McDonnell for the English
title on October the 16th in what should be a great
contest.
YASSINE EL MAACHI – Beat Alex Spitko
over 4 rounds in a hastily arranged contest after Geared Adjetovic
was pulled out due to his work permit not coming through on time.
Yassine was in charge all the way but was a bit flat after being up
for the challenge of Geared which VIP promoter Steve Wood had made
as it was a fight he wanted to see and he said after the show that
he would try and make it again as soon as the problems are sorted
out.

A GREAT SHOW AND 8 WINS FOR VIP AT
BOLTON LAST SUNDAY
ALEX MATTVIENKO – Became the light-Middleweight Masters
champion with a 10 round points victory over John Musgrave in a well
fought contest . Alex is known as the ‘ One man riot ’ but changed
the script on Sunday leaving his brawling methods at home and
decided to showcase his boxing skills instead . The fight still had
its moments but apart from the last round it was not the normal free
for all occasion we have come to expect off Alex and this bodes well
for the future.
MICK JENNO - Continued his
comeback with a points win over the durable Jamie Ambler who
although dropped in the 3rd round never really looked in danger of
being stopped , a bit more ring rust is off and Jenno will be
straight back in the gym to help Tony Quigley prepare for Brian
Magee
CHRIS JOHNSON – Bounced back
with a win after his shock loss to Geraint Harvey with a points
victory over Martyn King in a very good fight. Chris was outworked
in the first 2 but turned the fight round with a right hook that
dropped King to take a 10-8 round and a close but winning last round
saw him home.
TREVOR CREWE - This was a very
exciting debut by the ‘ Wrecking Crewe ‘ who lived up to his
nickname by stopping the normally durable Geraint Harvey in the 4th
round with a volley of punches that had the crowd off their feet .
If he keeps this level of performances up then I am sure the numbers
that followed him from Sunderland will continue to grow and they
will all have a great time watching him develop ,he boxes next in
Blackpool on the 17th July.
TONY AITCHESON - Another debut
win for the Dewsbury 18 year old who beat Old warhorse Karl Taylor
on points.
RICK GODDINS - Had a late
change when Chris Long pulled out and had to settle for a repeat
points win over Carl Allen , Rick is ready to go now.
JON KAYS – Moved to 8-1 with a
points win over the very tough Stephen Gethin who despite being out
boxed in every round never gave up. Jon seems to have found extra
confidence in his last 2 fights since his only loss and is looking
ready for another step up.
KIERON FARELL – The Pocket
Rocket flyweight had the Delroy Spencer test this Sunday and will
have learned off the cute old fox . Like the wrecking crewe he is a
barrel of anger and wants to kill with every punch . this is great
for his fans who will follow him to Blackpool on the 17th July where
he will box next. Once he settles down and selects the punches
better, he will be a handful and title opportunities will be there
for when he reaches 20 years of age.
NEXT SHOW IS BLACKPOOL TOWER ON THE 17TH JULY 2009 - FULL DETAILS
ON WHAT WILL BE A STONKING SHOW IN NEXT WEEKS GOSSIP
13/05/09
MIKE ROBINSON –
Jumps back on the horse after his defeat for the
English Super-Fly title to Ross Burkinshaw and fights Ashley Sexton
over 6 rounds at Stoke on the 29th May FTM Sports SKY
Show.
BRETT FLOURNEY
- Also on the same show challenges handful Scott
Miller in Stoke . This is a very hard comeback fight after time out
setting up a business but the former ABA champion is determined to
prove he has got what it takes.
VIP PROMOTIONS SHOW AT THE REEBOX IN

TONY AITCHESSON v KARL TAYLOR
05/05/09
JAMIE MOORE
– Had a quick defence of his recently acquired EBU title on the UK
Sunderland under card to Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas. Jamie again
looked very good in stopping Roman Dzuman in 2 rounds with a
powerful display that saw him drop Roman (who was described as a
world class journeyman by Sky) 4 times in a manner that was very
impressive and confirms he is now ready for the step into World
class
BRIAN ROSE -
Beat Matt Scriven on points with a mature
performance that saw him continuously using the perfect jab to score
a 40-36 win.
GARY SYKES -
Was gutted this week to hear that Frank Warren
promotions will no longer be promoting his British eliminator
against Anthony Crolla on the 22nd May 22nd as
stated on their winning purse bid. Gary will now box a 6 rounder in
Stoke on the 29th May to keep busy and not waste all his
hard work prepareing for the Crolla fight - lets hope it happens as
we are well up for it at this end.
SUNDAY 17TH MAY AT THE
REEBOX STADIUM IN BOLTON
Alex Matvienko gets another chance to
win a titlewhen he boxes John Musgrove for the British Master
Light-Middleweight title on a VIP promotions 9 fight card that will
again be value for money. The under card includes Jon Kays , Rick
Goddins , Chris Johnson , Mick Jenno Kieran Fallon , Andy Butlin and
the professional debuts of Trevor Crewe + Tony Aitcheson .
26/04/09
2 TITLE LOSSES FOLLOW 2 WINS
BUT PROSPECTS SHINE
After British title victories for
Tony Quigley and Gary Davies , VIP had 2 title defeats to stop their
great run following the success of Jamie Moore in his European
title victory. The plus side was the performances of the young VIP
prospects.
Mike Robinson -
Lost in his English title
challenge to Ross Burkinshaw in a great scrap which was as even as
their fantastic draw a few weeks prior. Each round swayed from
fighter to fighter as one traded whilst the other rested , we had
Mike just in front due to his cleaner work rate but in the 7th
round he tired and the referee called a halt to the scrap. It was
only Mikes 6th fight and maybe was a bit to soon for him
, but he will be back.
Mark Moran –
Was beaten in his bid to become the British Super-Bantamweight
Champion by Jason Booth who got himself in a rhythm and looked very
good. The fight was halted in the 6th when a bad head
clash left Mark with a bad cut eye that left him unfit to continue ,
however apart from the first round Booth was in control and was
winning the fight comfortably. The real Mark Moran did not turn up
but he is still English Champion and we will work him back another
go.
Martin Murray -
Looked very powerful in his 2nd round stoppage win over
Kevin Conception.
Carl Dilcs – Picked
out some lovely shots in his easy points win over Journeyman James
Tucker who was a late replacement for the injured Joe Ainscough.
Jack Arnfield –
The 19 year old moved to 10-0 with a tidy
performances winning over points against Paul Mobrey.
Nick Quigley -
The 18 year had a points win over the cagey Kristian
Laight in his 2nd pro fight and shown some good shot
selections.
Tyrone Nurse -
Been a pro for just over a year now since turning 18
and moved to 7-0 with a sharp display in a points win over the
durable Johnny Greaves
Karl Place –
Moved to 5-0 within 6 months of being a pro when he
stopped the decent Jamie Spence in 2 rounds , it was a controlled
aggressive display.
Next weeks gossip will have details
of the next VIP show in Bolton on the 17th May which
will have 9 fights topped by Alex Matvienko in a British Master
title fight and will include the pro debuts of Trevor Crewe and
Tony Aitcheson.
12/04/09
GARY DAVIES –
Became the NEW British Bantamweight champion by
beating Mathew Edmonds with a 7th round stoppage at York
Hall live on Sky last Friday evening. Gary put in an excellent
performance and proved that he is not just a puncher by also showing
great footwork and a boxing brain to match the undoubted power he
possesses . A Professional for close on 7 years Gary had only 12
fights experience banked going in to this fight and the manner in
which he won the contest bodes well for the future , he will take
some beating.
MARK MORAN -
Has had a terrible week as opponents and titles
changed for his fight this coming Friday at Leigh Sports village ,
thankfully Jason Booth has stepped up to the plate after he also
suffered with a pull out and boxes Mark for the vacant Super
Bantamweight British title. Both champions Mathew Marsh and Lee
Haskins pulled out with under 2 weeks to go and left Promoter Frank
Maloney with a massive headache as the number of possible new
opponents at these 2 weights is very small and it was close on an
impossible task to solve – Hats off to Mathew for relinquishing his
title and also Jason for stepping up to ensure the following show
still takes place.
17TH APRIL AT LEIGH SPORTS
VILLAGE
Tickets priced at £35.00 general and
£70.00 ringside are still available for the following show which
looks a great night of boxing. Ticket can be obtained by contacting

MIKE GOMEZ –
Has officially announced his retirement after loosing
a challenge for the Commonwealth title on Friday night against Ricky
Burns. Mike has been showing signs of old age but felt there would
be enough left to beat Burns and win a title that was missing from
his collection , it was not to be but Mike did not disgrace himself.
The fight was being controlled by Burns but Mike had his moments and
a uppercut in the fifth had Burns doing a Zab Judah and he remained
on wobbly legs until the bell , the predator of old would clearly
have finished the job. The plans to get inside and work away were
not working due to continued holding by Burns -which was finally
punished by the referee by taking a point after numerous warning –
the referee waved the contest off in the Seventh after Mike had
been pinned to the ropes with a left elbow in the throat whilst
being hit by the right followed by a barrage of shots, Mike was
taking a knee and we thought the interruption was to warn Burns
again , it was not. Therefore Mike goes out to a controversial
decision which has been a pattern of his life , he has been a
soldier to the cause of British Boxing and lets all hope he finds
something to enjoy in his retirement.
TONY QUIGLEY -
Karl Ince recently dubbed him as the new ‘Rocky
Marciano’ and that rang true on Saturday night in Liverpool when he
stopped Tony Dodson to win the British Super-Middleweight title in
the final round of the contest. After a tense feel around opening
round , Rocky exploded in the second flooring Dodson twice and threw
a load of punches to get him out of there early - Tony Dodson some
how survived and managed to change the script in the next round. We
expected the third round to be a quick finish but Rocky had nearly
punched himself out in that second and Dodson must have seen it as
his last chance , so came out fiercely and won the round in complete
turn around. He then went on to dominant the rounds up to the tenth
with Rocky taking many flush shots but not wilting or looking like
going down , he had only ever done 6 rounds and had been conserving
energy for the end. The eleventh saw the change when the power
punching that had been missing from the second came back and again
Dodson saw the canvas but survived the round , he did not survive
the final one when a revived Quigley decked him twice and was about
to again before the referee rightfully jumped in. A cracking fight
had been witnessed.
LEE JENNINGS –
Had a comfortable points win over Karl Taylor early
on the Liverpool Echo big bill on Saturday night before getting out
to watch his stable mate and friend win the British title .
MIKE ROBINSON -
Another fighter from the
Tony Quigley Snr stable was also there to cheer Tony on and the
little fellow had double reason to feel happy as it was confirmed
that on St Georges day he will fight for the English Super Flyweight
title against Ross Burkinshaw.

JAMIE MOORE -
It finally happened for Mooresy on Friday night when
he stopped Michele Piccirilo in 3 rounds with an awesome display
that surely moves him into World class and in the top 5 fighters in
the UK with Hatton , Froch , Haye and Khan. Moore was in a devilish
mood from the start and stalked the Italian round the ring hurting
him as early as the first ,which was a sign of things to come. The
constant pressure and punch picking whilst switching stances was
getting results every time and it was no surprise that a hurtful
body shot finished the job. No one deserves this success more and
Jamie will be kept busy and defends the title on the 2nd
May 20009 on the UK leg of Hatton SKY box office event.
MARTIN MURRAY - Another
good performance with an early stoppage of Croatian Mikheil
Khucishvili confirmed the Middleweights potential as one to watch, a
few more fights and Martin will be knocking on the door for the
British and Commonwealth titles.
JON KAYS -
Was under pressure coming of a loss and joining a
new stable with trainer Bobby Rimmer but stepped up to the plate
with a solid points win over Barrington Brown , even though he did
get put down after getting a bit over confidence.
ALEX MATVIENKO -
Kept busy with a points win over
Paul Royston and this chase will have done him no harm in his
preparation for his much awaited rematch with Lee Edwards that is
due to take place in May.
JACK ARNFIELD –
The 19 year old prospect moved to 9-0 with a very
good performance over Dee Mitchell.
KARL PLACE –
Another young buck from VIP who looks like one more
from the VIP champion making machine , this 20 year old played with
the experienced Baz Carey and looks like one for the future , he
moves to 4-0 after being a pro for less than 6 months.
RICK GODDINS – Moved
to 6-0 with a repeat win over Kristain laight and must surely be
moved on shortly , his class was evident but hard to flow against a
experienced spoiler , better performances will come in the future
starting at Bolton on the 29th March.
Our next gossip will focus on
the 29TH March show at Bolton and the 3 VIP fighters who
challenge for British titles in the next 5 weeks.
07/03/09
Jamie Moore pulled off a career
best performance to beat Michel
Piccirillo in three thrilling rounds
this evening - and has claimed the European Light Middleweight
Crown.
Jamie Also continues to climb up the
world rankings and is aiming for a World Title shot in the near
future.
Watch This Space......
Well Done Jamie!
European Champion!!!!
02/03/09
CARL DILCS – Is just coming to terms with the shambles at the
Light-Heavyweight Prizefighter competition 10 days ago when he was
declared the semi-final winner over Darren Stubbs, only to have it
reversed 5 minutes after due to an administration error by the
board. This was a double whammy as it seems that not only did they
cock up ,the judges must have been on the booze to give the fight to
Stubbs in what was a clear win for Dilcs. Carl had taken away a
guaranteed extra £4,000 and a possible extra £17,000 should he have
beaten Tony Oakey in the final – the Team are not happy but what can
you do ????.
MIKE ROBINSON - Another VIP fighter who seemed to be at the
end of a bad decision on Friday at Barnsley where all around us
thought he had beaten Russ Burkinshaw in a good contest. We are
taking it as an away Draw is as good as a win!!
TYRONE NURSE – Put on his best display to date with an
impressive 40-36 points win over Baz Carey and now moves to 6–0.
www.vipbe.co.uk – Last few tickets for Jamie Mores European
title fight on Friday 6th March are available to purchase up to
Tuesday night.
NEW VIP GYM - Building work has now started on what will be a
great facility for Professionals trained by Bobby Rimmer during the
day and Amateurs in the evening ,with a new ABA club being formed in
Astley. It is anticipated to open early April and there will be
rooms to accommodate meetings , press conferences , weigh inns etc -
as well as a 3000 square feet boxing gym equipped with the full
www.vipbe.co.uk equipment and changing facilities.

Burkinshaw over 6 rounds
TYRONE NURSE – Boxes Baz
Carey over 4 rounds on the same Barnsley show
GARY DAVIES – After his great
win over Martin Power has been rewarded with a crack at Jamie
McDonnell for the English Title. Frank Maloney won the purse bids
for this Fight and it will support Mark Morans bid for the British
Super-Bantamweight at Leigh on the 17th April 2009.
MARK THOMPSON – Will be joint
Chief Support with Gary on the Leigh bill when he boxes Philip Kotey
in a rescheduled Commonwealth Welterweight final eliminator .
GARY SYKES - Purse bids for
his British eliminator with Anthony Crolla were won by allegedly
Frank Warren and the contest is scheduled for the 22nd May in
London.
REEBOX STADIUM – VIP
promotions will be running an open show in Bolton for the first time
on the 29th March 2009 and the soon to be announced card will
feature Rick Goddins , Kieran Farrell, Stuart McFadyen ,Chris
O,Brien ,Mick Jenno, Terry Flannigan and a few others.

JAMIE MOORE -
Tickets are going well for his European title fight at
Wigan on the 6th March 2009 with the VIP ringside all
sold out. The undercard includes Darren Sutherland ,
Martin Murray , Jack Arnfield , Karl Place , Jon Kays ,
Rick Goddins , Alex Mattvienko and Travis Dickinson -
tickets priced £35.00 general or £80.00 ringside are
available from all the boxers or www.vipbe.co.uk. Book
early to avoid disappointment .
STUART McFADYEN – Has now been added to the above
show as Ross Burkinshaws team changed their mind on the
previously agreed fight between the two , they decided
that this may be better doing for an Area Title down the
line and we have agreed.
MIKE ROBINSON – Moved to 4-0 with a points win
over Romanian journeyman Gheorghe Ghiompirica last week
in London. Gheorghe does come to have a go and it made
for both a good fight and test for Mike ,he is staying
in the gym and hopes to be out again soon.
CHANNEL M – Will be showing highlights from our
recent Blackpool show this Saturday at 7.00pm ,it will
be repeated several times , tune in on SKY 203.
20/01/09
MIKE GOMEZ – Gets
another crack at a title fight when he boxes Ricky Burns
for the Commonwealth Super-Featherweight title on the
27th March in Glasgow on a Frank Warren show. Mike has
never won a Commonwealth belt and is really up for this
one , expect some more fireworks !!!
GARY SYKES – Has
been nominated to fight Anthony Crolla in a eliminator
for the British Super-featherweight title , this should
be a cracking fight and has to take place by the end of
May 2009 unless one withdraws and Gary certainly will
not.
GARY DAVIES – Has
been nominated to challenge English champion Jamie
McDonnell for the his Bantamweight title.
MARK THOMPSON –
Damaged his hand on the last day of sparring and
therefore had to withdraw from Fridays Commonwealth
final eliminator.
MIKE ROBINSON - Will now box a 6rnd contest in
London next Thursday after his opponent for Friday night
withdrew
TICKETS - Anyone
wishing to attend our 8 fight card at Blackpool tower
this Saturday the 24th January can pay in on the night .
Tickets for Jamie Moores European title fight can be
purchased off any of the boxers or from
www.vipbe.co.uk

14/01/09
MARK MORAN – Will
face Champion Matthew Marsh for the British
Super-Bantamweight title at Leigh Sports Centre on April
17th after Frank Maloney was successful with his purse
bid to give Mark home advantage in a fight which we feel
he can and will win.
THOMAS McDONAGH
–Was upset to here that Gary Woolcombe withdrew from
there British eliminator purse bid rather than fight
him. It means that both boxers will probably now only
box 6 round fights on March shows rather than square off
for the opportunity to get a crack at the Lonsdale belt.
Woolcombe won the title by default when Jamie Moore
vacated and lost on his first defence , surely the
chance to fight for it in a legitimate way should not be
turned down.
TONY QUIGLEY -
Will challenge Paul Davids for the English
Super-Middleweight title in his home town Liverpool on
the 28th March Hayemaker show
STEPHEN WOOD - The normally quiet VIP promoter
has said that after 12 years of promoting he feels this
is the year when the stable will hit the big time . He
expects Tony Quigley , Martin Murray , Jamie Moore ,
Brian Rose , Mark Thompson , Mike Gomez , Gary Sykes ,
Mark Moran ,Stuart McFadyen and Gary Davies all to box
for titles in 2009 and expects at least 8 champions by
2010 . With a nice bunch of prospects signed up
underneath them ,the feeder chain is also there.
09/01/09
CHANNEL M – This
Saturday at 7pm and 11pm dedicate a 1 hour of our Jolly
Boys 2008 XMAS dinner where Gary Sykes , Tyrone Nurse ,
Karl Place and Lee Jennings will all feature in action.
It can be caught on SKY203 or virgin media 878.
JAMIE MOORE -
Tickets priced at £35.00 general and £80.00 ringside
will be on sale next week for his European title fight
which will take place at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan
on the 6th March 2009. The show will be supported by
Irish Olympian Darren Sutherland , M/W Prize-fighter
winner Martin Murray and local top prospects Scott Quigg
, Jack Arnfield , Karl Place , Jon Kays and Rick Goddins.

over the moon at his place in the Light Heavyweight
Prize-fighter contest and cannot wait until the 20th
February Matchroom event.
MARK THOMPSON –
Will fight an eliminator for the Commonwealth
Welterweight title on the 23rd January in Stoke against
the mandatory challenger Phillip Kottey of Ghana. The
winner will fight the holder Craig Watson by the end of
June 2009.
STUART McFADYEN -
Joins VIP boxers Gary Sykes and Tyrone Nurse on the
Maloney SKY bill in Barnsley on the 27th February where
he will fight local boy Ross Burkinshaw in what looks a
cracking little fight on paper.
www.vipbe.co.uk –
Is worth a visit this month as it has a special offer of
20% discount off all items in January 2009 , it will
also have the Jamie Moore tickets available next week
and is selling tickets for the Blackpool show on the
24th January 2009 which is looking like a sell out.

03/01/09
VIP XMAS
PARTY
- After a successful 2008 the boys had a morning
paintball session followed by a relaxed Chinese banquet
in Manchester city centre a few days after the jolly
boys . Highlights of the day were Gomez running out of
bullets in 30 seconds , Moorsey screaming when shot
,Tony Quigley blasting Stuart Mcfadyen after he had
declared himself out , Steve Wood being peppered by Mike
Pass after his gun had jammed and Mark Moran hiding at
home base like a seasoned sniper. The big disappointment
was Alex Mattvienko failing to make it and blaming it on
his own son , when we all knew he was pissed up in bed.

***** BEST WISHES
FOR 2009 TO ALL FROM EVERYONE AT VIP *****
22/12/08
GARY DAVIES – Had
a career best win on Thursday in Dublin when he stopped
EX British Champion Martin Power in the 2nd round with a
fluster of precise punches that hurt Martin and left him
in no position to defend himself. Gary was over excited
in the ring after this performance as at breakfast on
the day of the fight he had overheard Martin telling
friends that this was a warm up fight and he would be
finishing it early , also Gary was to challenge Jason
Booth for the Commonwealth title that evening but had
been rejected as an unsuitable opponent – surely next
time he has to be considered.
MIKE GOMEZ – The
Mancunian Mexican just keeps going and had a good
performance last evening in Scotland beating Chris Long
on points in his 47th fight.
GARY SYKES – Moved to 10-0 with a stoppage win
over the normally durable Jason Nesbitt , who although
not hurt was being peppered and had stopped throwing any
punches back .
LEE JENNINGS – Lost on points to the tricky
Yussif Al hamidi in a contest we felt should had been a
draw. Lee forced the fight from the off winning the
first few rounds easily, only to be tagged a few times
whilst still pressuring in the later rounds
TYRONE NURSE – Had a comfortable points win over
Sid Razak and looked quality in parts working of the jab
and showing a wide range of shots.
KARL PLACE – Despite getting over the flue Karl
put on a professional performance against the durable
Johnny Greaves winning on points but hurting john on the
way.
13/12/08
JAMIE MOORE – Has
withdrawn from the Dublin SKY Show on the 18th December
as he wants to concentrate fully on his European Title

chief support will be Tommy McDonagh v Gary Woolcombe in
an eliminator for the British Title.
GARY DAVIES - Is
looking sharp and feels ready for his crack at Martin
Powers next week in Dublin, he has finished sparring off
with Stuart McFadyen.

been made mandatory for Mathew Marsh and cannot wait to
box for the British title at super-bantamweight.

Flanagan and Nick Quigley.

bids Frank Maloney has negotiated a deal to bring the
Italian Michael Piccirilo over to Manchester to fight

LITTLE FRANK

record going.

already a sell out.

Martin Powers.
CHANNEL M – Tune
in on Saturday the 15th November to SKY203 to

7TH
NOVEMBER SHOW AT WIGAN
TONY QUIGLEY –
Became the first person to stop the very durable Nathan
King when the doctor advised the referee to end the
fight before the 6th round began due to a
nasty cut under the right eye. Tony hopes now to get a
British Eliminator and a fight we would like is a derby
with Tony Dodson.
MARK THOMPSON –
Gave a very much improved performance stopping Craig
Dixon in the 7th round of a very interesting
scrap. Mark started off with a tight guard and
continually punched the Scotsman back in the first few
rounds dropping him at the end of the 2nd. To
Craig’s credit he did get back into the fight during the
middle rounds when Mark went on his back foot , but the
sustain hurtful attacks from Mark were back in round 6
and finally enough for Craig by the 7th when
the referee wisely stepped in to save him from further
punishment.
KARL PLACE –
Impressed again in only his second fight giving Carl
Allen a good working over but failed in his efforts to
stop the durable opponent.
MARK MORAN –
Looked a bit flat in his points win over late sub
Youseff Alhemedi . Mark never really got going in this
fight but this can be expected after the disappointment
of Esham Pickering pulling out of there proposed English
title fight which we hope will still go ahead in the new
year.

NEWS
ON NOV 7TH SHOW AT ROBIN PARK ARENA WIGAN
MARK MORAN – Was
bitterly disappointed to hear Esham Pickering had
withdrew from their English title contest citing a virus
and then to hear that he was then intending to fight
Paul Appleby 3 weeks later for the British Featherweight
. Mark remains on the bill but will not now be defending
his title , the Pickering tale has yet to be concluded
as he is contracted to fight Mark and his fight with
Paul Appleby has yet to be approved by the board – talk
about jumping the gun !!!!
MARK THOMPSON -
With Andrew Ferrans being stopped in last weeks
Prize-fighter tournament it left us with a search on for
an acceptable opponent , in popped past British Title
challenger Craig Dixon who had also competed in the
contest ,but was available as he only lost on points to
winner Michael Lomax. This is another chance to see if
Mark is ready for a crack at the British Title which is
surely to come early 2009 if he keeps winning.
KARL PLACE – Has
been matched with Robin Deacon and intends to give
another impressive performance after his debut success
last month.
SCOTT QUIGG – The
exciting Brian Hughes trained fighter has agreed to join
the FTM/VIP promotional team and will look to shine
against Samali Badu.

MARK THOMPSON
- Celebrated the signing of a new contract with VIP by
beating Gatis Skuja over 6 rounds at York Hall and moved
his record to 18-17-1-0 . It was a steady if not
spectacular performance by Mark ,but the most important
thing was getting the rounds out and banking some
experiences for the challenges ahead. Mark has been
nominated to box Amar Adnan for the English Welterweight
title which seems an odd one with Mark expecting to be
in a Final eliminator for the British with either John
O’Donnell or Young Muttley after Tony Doherty withdrew
from their eliminator .
JAMIE MOORE –
Also signed a new contract this week but unfortunately
he did not get good news , the purse bids for his EBU
title fight with Italian M Piccirillo have been put back
to the 14th November 2008 – this title shot just seems
to drag on and on!!!
MIKE GOMEZ –
Had his second win within a month beating Baz Carey on
points in Scotland . Mike has now had 46 Pro fights and
hopes to take this up to 50 within 6 months and win a
title whilst doing it . A big challenge , but who would
back against him achieving it ????.
GARY SYKES –
Has been nominated to box Carl Johansson in a British
Eliminator at Super-Featherweight . This is a big ask
for the Yorkshire man unbeaten in only 9 fights ,but one
he is up for should it happen .
CHRIS JOHNSON –
Has been added as a reserve for the
Prize-fighter Welterweight tournament at York Hall this
Friday the 24th October
NOVEMBER 7TH AT WIGAN –
What a
card this is turning out to be with Mark Thompson ,
Martin Murray , Tommy McDonough , Karl Place and Paul
Edwards being added onto the 4 cracking fights announced
last week – this is definitely one not to be missed,
tickets available on

Robinson won on PTS; 36-40. Another Scouser who looked
very sharp indeed.

RESULTS FROM VIP COLNE SHOW ON SUNDAY THE 28TH
SEPTEMBER
MIKE GOMEZ – Jumped in at late notice and again gave
the fans pure entertainment for the 2 rounds it lasted.
Mike weighed a career highest 10st 10lb on the day but
still managed to stop the 11st Chris Brophy with a
tremendous left hook to the body which took the wind
from the sails , the first round had seen Chris fly out
of the traps trying to bully Mike with his extra size.
They stood toe to toe in a trademark Gomez scrap that
the punters and Mike loved , he now moves onto Glasgow
in 2 weeks where he will be at 10st before returning
back to his normal super-featherweight and looking for
another title chance.
STUART McFADGEN – Beat Delroy Spencer comfortably on
points 40-36 for the second time after his original
opponent pulled out late.
CHRIS OBRIEN – The Burnley ticket seller stopped
debutant Simon Morgan in the second when he trapped the
Welshman in his own corner and did not stop throwing
punches until the referee jumped in . The first had seen
Morgan come out winging and Chris tucked up nicely
before picking out his own attacks , a clash of heads at
the end of the first required 5 stitches for Chris and
the panic sparked the flurry to win the fight.
ALAISTER MORRISSON - Out boxed Jamie Ambler 60-54
with a neat display moving him to 2-0 in the Pro ranks.
TYRONE NURSE – Was suffering from a small cold but
still had enough to repeat his success over Carl Allen
only 3 weeks ago in a entertaining fight.
THE NEXT VIP SHOW IS
AT LEIGH ON THE 12TH OCTOBER 2008 IS SHAPING
UP NICELY AND THE MATCHED CARD WILL BE CONFIRMED LATER
IN THE WEEK – IT IS SPONSORED BY

24/09/08
JAMIE MOORE –
His fight against European Champion Zarurbek Baysangurov
has been put out for Purse bids again after the EBU
refused to strip the champion for pulling out of another
set date . All at Team Moore are disappointed at this
and Jamie himself feels that the fight is not destined
to happen and has instructed us to look at alternatives
whilst this fiasco drags on.
MIKE GOMEZ -
In agreement with all parties has left
Bobby Rimmers Stalybridge gym to train with Kevin Maree
in Burnley .The new set up has a hotel on the complex
and Mike has agreed to move in there during his camps
so he can be fully focused on what is the tail end of
his career. Mike wants to get 2 quick fights in before
having another crack at a title and if he can be matched
will box at Colne this Sunday on a VIP promotion – a
real treat for the locals.
SHAUN HORSFALL
–Has withdrew from Sundays show with a rib injury that
is not only sore but affecting his throwing of shots.

15/09/08
ANOTHER CRACKING
VIP BILL ENDS WITH HEARTBREAK FOR MATTVIENKO
ALEX MATTVIENKO – Suffered his first loss in his 14th
fight for the vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight
title fight against Sheffield’s Lee Edwards in what was
fight of the night and there was some good contests.
There will be a fight report posted shortly but the
score of 95-94 by the referee had them 5 rounds even
with a point deducted from Alex for a head butt loosing
him a fight which all the home punters thought he had
won by pushing out 2 big final rounds in what was a
great fight and one that we can do again.
MARTIN MURRAY - Gave a stone away in weight but
still managed to stop Carl Wilde in 2 rounds with
devastating body punchers that had the tall Sheffield
boxer over twice and unable to get up the second time.
JACK ARNFIELD – The 19 year prospect from Blackpool
went to 7 straight wins with a points win over Jon
Harrison .
GARY DAVIES – In a proper toe to toe punch up , Gary
finally stopped Sumaila Badu in the 5th round
of what was a brutal war with both standing there ground
trading without any worry on defence .
LEE JENNINGS – A very good performance saw Lee stop
John Vanemminis in 2 exciting rounds of non stop
punching from the Lee who mixed up shots to both body
and head flooring John twice.
RICK GODDINGS – Shown some nice moves in his points
win over Johnny Greaves who to his credited never
stopped trying
SCOTT MITCHELL – Beat Ben Harding on points in a
well matched Heavyweight contest
CHRIS JOHNSON – Repeated a points win over David
Kirk and hopes to box next in the Welterweight
prize-fighter contest where he is a reserve.
CARL DILCS and PAUL EDWARDS failed to be
matched up and hopefully will now box on the VIP show in
Leigh on the 12th October which will be
headlined by Tommy McDonagh and feature the debut of
new VIP signing Karl Place

MARTIN MURRAY
is tipped to become the next sporting success story from
St Helens.
The town’s
rugby league team are unbeaten in 21 matches and lifted
the Challenge Trophy on Saturday beating Hull at Wembley
Stadium.
Murray (7-0)
plans to emulate those world beaters and already has the
British middleweight title in his sights.
His first
fight of the new season takes place at VIP’s next top
quality show at Wigan’s Robin Hood Centre on Sunday 14th
September when he faces a selected opponent in a six
rounder.
And confident
promoter Steve Wood believes the 25-year-old will in the
shake up for Wayne Elcock’s domestic title by next
summer.
Provided he
chalks up win number eight the middleweight division’s
mystery man will feature in a Sky Sports televised show
in November
Wood said:
“Everybody at VIP Promotions is excited by Martin and
over the next few months each fight will be a step up in
class.
“Within nine
or ten months he should be ready to challenge for his
first major title.”
Murray, a
regular at Knowsley Road for Saints home games said:
“I’d fight for the British title right now, but I have
to understand it is about the right fights at the right
time.”
Martin’s next
big test is chief support to Alex Matvienko’s clash with
Lee Edwards for the vacant British Masters
light-middleweight title.
Also on the
bill are some of the brightest prospects in the North
West including Carl Dilks (Liverpool), Jack Armfield (Blackpool),
Chris Johnson (Preston), Scott Mitchell (Bolton), Rick
Godding (Bolton) and Lee Jennings (Liverpool)

END
OF SEASON REPORTS FOR VIP FIGHTERS WITH HOPES FOR THE
NEW SEASON (6-10 FROM 25)
MARTIN MURRAY – The former ABA champion ended his
first season as a professional with the perfect record
of 7 wins from 7 fights and saved his best performance
to the last when he moved up to 6 rounds in an
International contest in June this year. Martin has
shown great dedication and the VIP team see him as a
certain future champion at Middleweight and if he
continues to improve like he has then it may well be as
early as the coming season !!!
ALEX MATVIENKO – Known as the one man riot as he is
never in a bad fight. Alex jokes at being the gym punch
bag as he trains and spars alongside top quality
fighters Jamie Moore , Mark Thompson and Martin Murray.
However it can only be doing him good as he won 4 from 4
last year finishing with 2 KO wins and moving to a 13
fight unbeaten record including 2 draws. Alex starts
next year with his first title fight and no one will
have deserved a belt as much if he goes on to win it and
we expect him to do just that.
BRIAN ROSE – Another VIP fighter that managed to
keep his unbeaten record winning 4 and drawing 1 against
the bigger Manoochi Salari when he topped the
bill in Blackpool last year and the occasion got the
better of him. Brian has shown his bottle by coming back
with 2 wins since the draw and we hope to get him a
title shot at Welterweight when he boxes at Blackpool
again in November this new season.
MICHAEL GOMEZ - Was it a good year or bad one for
Mike ????. He lost 2 out of 3 but both were cracking
fights loosing to Carl Johansson for the British S-F
Title and then moving up to lightweight to challenge
Amir Khan for the Commonwealth title. We like to think
Mike came out with credit in both his losses and the
year was not wasted , he will bounce back from these
fights and come back a winner ar S-F and we hope next
year a title will be back on his mantelpiece in what
will be his 13 year in Boxing.
STUART McFADYEN - Stuart suffered his first loss to
Gavin Reid this year and although he did win another 3
contests we have to consider it a bad year for him. We
hoped to move Stuart in title class this year but the
loss delayed it and also a chance to fight for the Irish
Title was lost – next season will start with a 6 rounder
at home in Colne and then we will be looking to test
Stuart in championship class and hope his gym form comes
with him.
14/07/08
END OF SEASON REPORT FOR VIP FIGHTERS WITH HOPES FOR
THE NEW SEASON(1-5 FROM 25)
JAMIE MOORE – Closed off the 07/08 season with a 3
round stoppage win over Ciaran Healey to become the
first ever holder of the Commonwealth , British and
Irish titles. This fight was a second quick KO win
following a stoppage of a tough Mexican on the Hatton
under card in May and both were perfect in shedding ring
rust following a shoulder operation in November after a
British Title KO victory over Andrew Facey in October.
Jamie had been hoping to move on after his impressive
victory over Sebastian Lugan at the end of the previous
season but injuries again held him back , but it looks
like the new season could be the one as his first fight
will be the delayed European title challenge , we await
a date of Sky but the 3rd of October is
looking likely.
MARK THOMPSON – After finishing 06/07 season with
his only loss in a brave challenge to Vincent Vuma ,
Mark has bounced back with 5 out of 5 wins , 4 coming by
KO (3 in 1st rounds) to demonstrate his
increased punching power. The only points win was
against Frenchman Frank Horta who has since proved his
quality by winning his next 6 fights and becoming his
country’s Welterweight Champion – that is Marks goal for
the coming year. Last season saw him loose 2 chances to
step closer to the Lonsdale belt when his promoter let
Kevin McKintyre out of a eliminator contract to box for
the title and then when he was not fit to box Kell Brook
in another eliminator the board ruled he must forfeit
that opportunity too. Mark is now in a new eliminator
series and will fight Tony Doherty by the end of
November in an attempt to move closer to the Lonsdale
belt which VIP expect he will earn before the new season
ends.
MARK MORAN - Another VIP fighter who will be
looking for the Lonsdale belt to be placed on his
mantelpiece by the end of the forthcoming season. Mark
had a 3 year break before becoming part of our team in
September 07 and last season won 5 out of 5 finishing
the season with an impressive performance stopping Danny
Wallace in the 9th round to win the English
Super-bantamweight title. We expect Mark to make a
defence of this before becoming the mandatory challenger
to new champion Matthew Marsh who we believe to be more
than beatable.
GARY DAVIES - This little quality battleship is a
recent addition to the camp and has been promised to be
kept busy after only fighting 9 times in 6 years . He
has settled down working hard in the Gym and moved down
to bantamweight weighing 8stone 6lb for his contest in
May on the Hatton show which was unfortunately cancelled
due to time restraints. He was soon back out looking
good in June stopping Sumail Badu in 2 rounds and this
year will be looking to challenge Jason Booth for his
Commonwealth title.
GARY SYKES – Finishes this year on Friday against
Harry Ramagodi and hopes to end the season with a
perfect 9 from 9 record . Assuming he does we will be
looking to push Gary on in the new season and at least
contest for an English title by the end of the season.
We
will back next week with another 5 VIP fighters end of
the season reports and also confirming shows at Wigan on
the 14th September , Colne on the 28th
September and the impressive Blackpool Tower on the 22nd
November
28/06/08
MICHAEL GOMEZ – It is now 7 days since Mikes failed
attempt to pick up the Commonwealth title up against the
Country number one prospect Amir Khan . At first Mike
felt he had let everyone down as he had not executed the
game plan to sit on Amirs chest and work - now with time
to reflect and the support of his team Mike is content
that he tried his best and credit has to go to his
opponent who stopped him from doing that. Mike has had a
little blow out and will be back in the gym on Monday to
tick over with the intension to fight again in
September or October. There has already been a few
offers for his services and we will all sit down and
decide which is the correct one to take. Everyone
involved with Mike were immensely proud of his conduct ,
effort and performance – IF ONLY !!!!!
GARY SYKES - Will box on the Maloney Sky bill in
Dagenham on the 18th July against Harry
Ramogoadi and looks to take his record to 9-0.
TYRONE NURSE – Is itching to get out after the
disappointment of sitting in the changing rooms for 7
hours on the Hatton bill in May and has now been given 2
dates in September for shows that are soon to be
announced. An early Sky show and a late September VIP
show in Colne.
JAMIE MOORE – Sees off the season for VIP boxers on
the 5th July when he boxes for the Irish
Title in Dublin in a bout that is planned to sharpen him
up ready for his crack at the European title in the new
season.
END OF SEASON REPORTS - With little happening over
the next few months we will continue our gossip going
with end of season reports on all of our 25 fighters
and hopes for the new season. It has been a good year
for VIP fighters and next years is anticipated to be
even better.
LETS HOPE WE ALL ENJOY
OUR HOLIDAY BREAKS AND COME BACK FRESH FOR A NEW SEASON
WHICH IS ALREADY LOOKING INTERESTING TO SAY THE LEAST.
16/06/08
VIP BOYS PASS END OF
SEASON EXAMS WITH A PERFECT TEN FROM TEN
MARK THOMPSON –
Won in Portsmouth on Friday with a first
round stoppage of Latvian Artur Jashkul who was chopped
in half with a perfect body shop similar to the one that
dropped Vincent Vuma back in July 2007 which is Marks
only loss. Since then Mark has won 5 fights including
stopping 3 in the first round and 1 in the second round
- he is ready for the next step at Welterweight and
wants to get either Kell Brook or Craig Watson in the
ring as soon as possible.
LEE JENNINGS -
Finally made his debut after the first attempt was
thwarted when his opponent came in over weight . This
happened again yesterday but gave the 10 lbs away to
Kristain Laught and came away with the points win to
start the ball rolling in a decent scrap.
PAUL KEIR – In
only his 2nd fight he convincingly beat
former 2 times Commonwealth title challenger Hastings
Rasani with an assured performance that only bolds well
for the future. Paul rocked him in the 2nd
but did not have the experience to finish the job off
early and Hastings came back to make it interesting.
STUART McFADYEN –
Following the disappointment of hearing
his Irish Title fight with Paul Hyland was off ,he
jumped on this show in 2 days notice to make sure he got
a fight before the end of the season. He faced Senol
Dervis who had a stone advantage and held on for a
points loss.
CARL DILKS –
Dynamite delivered again with a 3rd stoppage
of Adam Wilcox who will never be accused of not trying.
Adam flew out of the traps winging left and rights at
Carl who stayed composed managing to avoid the majority
of them . By the second the quality of Dilks was
starting to show as he punch picked at the aggressive
Willcox and in the third he picked out a great left
hook to force him to the ropes where he continued the
assault until the referee jumped in.
RICK GODDING –
The ex Soldier who served with Carl Dilks moved to 3-0
with a punch perfect performance over the experience
Carl Allen. What Rick lacks in power he makes up for in
quality and it was a pleasure to watch his faultless
moves as he attacked without ever looking likely to get
hit.
GARY DAVIES –
Stopped the decent Sumaila Badu in the 2 round hurting
the Ghanaian with a great combination of punches that
made the Referee jump in. This was a wise and fair move
as Badu had been over twice already and the outcome was
inevitable
BRIAN ROSE -
Stepped up to the plate and boxed well to beat Kobe
Vandekerhove on points over 6 x 3 min rounds - Kobe is a
former Belgium champion and was no mug . Brian started
off well pinging the jab in his face which was marking
up by the end of the first and it was much the same in
the second until Brian started to mix it and was caught
with a shot that cut him under his left eye. Brian then
went back to boxing mode and performed brilliantly,
schooling his decent opponent for a good points victory
which will help build his confidence as he is moved on.
TONY QUIGLEY -
Came back after a long lay off and
shipped a bit of ring rust in the fight of the night
against Ayitey Powers in a punch up that amazingly
lasted the full 6 rounds. They locked horns in the first
and were still together banging away when the bell went
to end the fight in the 6th , the quality was with Tony
who picked his shots better but you cannot take anything
off the away fighter who caught Tony with a number a big
shots – it really was great to watch.
MARTIN MURRAY -
Topped a bill for the first time and did
not let down his army of fans as he went to war in the
first round against Michael Recloux from Belgium ,who in
his last fight drew in a challenge for the Belgium
title. Martin threw everything at the kid in the opener
and gave him a good battering to test his resolve , he
passed the test and hung in to compete well over the
next 4 rounds but not evenly as Martin switched to
boxing and beat him up without over powering him like in
the first. Martin went back to full throttle in the
final round dropping him with a peach of a body shot but
could not just finish him off and Recloux made the bell
battered , bruised and cut over the left eye from a head
clash. Murray will have learned a lot from this test

Mark Moran –
Was informed by ringside doctors after his English title
fight on Saturday that he had broken his hand in the
second round , a visit to Hospital on Monday confirmed
that it was only heavy bruising and therefore a smile
was back on the face of the new champion.
Jamie Moore - Is

A MASSIVE WEEKEND FOR VIP WITH 10 FIGHTERS IN ACTION
AND NON DEFEATED.
Results from Friday 23rd May VIP show at
Robin Park Arena which turned out to be a cracking show
despite a few hiccups
MARTIN MURRAY – Moved to 6-0 with a points win over
Dean Walker in what was a one sided battering. It was
only the 2 minute rounds that kept Walker alive and
proved it is time for Martin to move on. He will now
box 6 x 3 minute rounds International contest next time
out at St Helens on the 15th June 2008.
JACK ARNFIELD – Also moved to 6–0 with a third round
stoppage of Terry Adams with another great performance
which confirmed the star potential of a young man that
only turned 19 the day before the show.
SCOTT MITCHELL - The Bolton Heavyweight beat Paul
Bonson on points in a good little scrap that kept the
crowd happy.
CHRIS JOHNSON - Had a good punch up with Darren
Gethin for 5 rounds before stopping him with a
tremendous uppercut which cut Darren under the eye.
MIKE ROBINSON - Beat Mike Holloway in what was
fight of the night !!. Both the lads never took a step
backwards and the 40-36 score line was not a true
reflection of the fight ,although it was probably right
.A bit like the Hatton fight on the following Saturday
where Ricky may of won the rounds but the scoring did
not reflect the effort and performance of his opponent.
CHRIS O’BRIAN - Beat Kristian Laight on points in
what was a subdued performance from his debut only 3
weeks ago.
BRETT FLOURNEY - Stud in as a late top of the bill
when Mike Gomez was withdrawn to fight Amir Khan , he
faced tough nut Vladimir Borovski and won the contest
60-54 despite tiring in the late stages
Results from Saturday 24th May show at the
Cit of Manchester Stadium promoted by Frank Maloney and
Punch Promotions
JAMIE MOORE - Got rid of the cobwebs after his
shoulder operation with a 5th round stoppage
win over tough Mexican Esau Herrera who had only lost 3
out of 18 fights and been stopped only once, on his
debut 6 years ago.
MARK MORAN - Became English Champion with a 9th
round stoppage of Danny Wallace in what was close to a
punch perfect display. Mark bossed the fight from the
off and was in control till a late blow in the 6th
dropped Mark after the bell. This resulted in a bad 7th
round but Mark gritted his teeth after that and got his
second win to again take control in the 8th
and force a stoppage in the early part of round 9 with
Wallace being pounded to the ground.
THOMAS Mc DONAGH - Despite looking a comfortable
winner in his English Title fight with Andrew Facey was
only given a draw which shocked the neutral ringside
audience and the SKY commentators that had him winning
easy.
11/05/08
JAMIE MOORE – Is looking back to his best in
sparring after his shoulder operation and cannot wait to
get back in the ring with tough Mexican Esau Herrera on
the Ricky Hatton under card on the 24th May
2008.
MIKE GOMEZ - Feels like Rocky after going on a run
on Tuesday night and all passing cars stopping to wish
him good luck for his up and coming fight against Amir
Khan. Amir may be the unbeaten Pro being built up , but
you can be sure that in Birmingham and from the 7
million watching on ITV that more than half will be
wanting the Mancunian Mexican to win. Mike may not be
favourite but is on his game for this one and intends to
take the lottery ticket that he has been handed and we
do not mean just the money – this fight was made in 5
minutes because Mike wanted the job .
CRAIG McEWAN – As a favour to Golden boy promotions
, the 26 year old former stand out Scottish amateur star
with 376 fights under his belt winning 10 international
gold medals will make his UK debut on a VIP show on the
23rd May 2008 at Wigan. Southpaw Middleweight
Craig is now undefeated in 10 fights as a pro ,all
being in the USA and is coached by world renowned
trainer Freddie Roach in his famous wild card gym.

put all into the trainer /veteran sprint and fell over .
Incidentally this was won by promoter STEVE WOOD leaving
all in their boots with an unbelievable time of 10.7
seconds. All who competed have vowed to come back next
year and do better – especially Jamie Moore !!!!

CHANNEL M -

the same time.
MARK MORAN –
Has been given a slot on the Ricky Hatton under card at
the City Stadium on the 24th May where he
will box for the English Bantamweight title against
Danny Wallace . This is a chance VIP promised him he
would get when he returned to boxing and he has promised
to deliver.
TOMMY McDONAGH –
Is also buzzing with the news that his
English Title fight with Andrew Facey will be on the
same Hatton show . Tom knows this is a very hard fight
but it gives him the opportunity to get back to where he
should be and it is great for him to be back fighting on
the same Hatton cards as the old days.
– As well as a
great range of boxing equipment and leisure wear it is

Gomez v Peter McDonough II for Irish title on 23rd May
2008 at Wigan
Mike Gomez has the following to say about it "Since that
night in Ireland I have not slept proper and this is the
chance to cleanse myself and then move on – Steve Wood
has delivered big time for me here and believe me when I
say that I will smash this guy who has made a name out
of me turning my back . Yes I did turn my back , but I
am no quitter and this fight will turn the corner and
take me back to where I should be – a champion"

all waited for
31/03/08
TYRONE NURSE – Started the weekend off well for the
7 VIP boxers who all went on to follow with wins. Tyrone
started his pro debut in a confident way forcing the
fight with Kristian Laight from the start and picking
out some neat body shots which seemed to be hurting, but
they were not enough to stop the experienced and durable
opponent who fiddled his way to a points loss.
GARY SYKES – Punched the tough Peter Allen from
pillar to post but could not do enough to get a stoppage
, but looked classy trying and moved to 8 – 0.
MIKE GOMEZ – A great display of controlled
aggression saw Mike win every round and come out of a
fight unmarked for the first time in many years against
war horse Baz Carey. Mike looked like his old self
rolling , slipping and throwing great combinations that
were missing in his last few performances – he will be
back.
VIP COLNE SHOW RESULTS FROM SUNDAY 30TH
MARCH
JACK ARNFIELD – The 18 year old has moved swiftly to
5-0 and had a great learning experience with Billy Smith
who stepped in for big brother Ernie and put a brave and
gritty display in. Jack used his reach well but Billy
worked his way in many times for a slug fest that the
crowd appreciated.
SHAUN HORSFALL – Back after 4 years out and had a
cracking contest with the returning Jimmy Beech that saw
them both have success, the extra fitness of the home
fighter paid off and he pulled away over the last few
rounds for a comfortable win.
STUART McFADYEN - Got back to winning ways after
loosing his last contest, by going over old ground with
a points win over Abdhul Mgurhabel. The fight was
entertaining with both contestants pushing
forward looking for the win.
TOMMY McDONAGH – Was a little rusty after a 9 month
break and lost the early rounds against Yasine El Machi
who flew from the traps throwing punches from all
angles. Tommy took the majority on the gloves and when
eased in the fight started picking nice a few shots out
himself and turned the contest around for a well
deserved victory.

expect a good performance which will give Gary
confidence to take into his next fight ,when he will be
stepped up a level.
MIKE GOMEZ –
Boxes Baz Carey in Glasgow on Saturday evening and is
looking to shed some anger out of his system which has
been brewing since Lee McCallister withdrew from their
WBU lightweight title fight due on the same night.
McAllister’s team have not come back with a contract for
the fight to happen in the future and therefore it is
now dead in the water , we shall look at other title
options we have been offered after this fight on
Saturday.

EVERTON
PARK RESULTS FROM 16TH JULY 2008
Mark Moran – Again looked a class act in winning
every round and now moves onto an English Title fight
against Danny Wallace on the 28th March.
Carl Dilks – A good effort by Dilcs pushing forward
at every opportunity, but never really looking like
stopping the durable Walker .Carl sank in a left hook to
the body in the 6th which took the wind from
the sails , but Dean managed to hang in there.
Martin Murray - Another solid if not spectacular
performance by Murray who forced the fight for every
minute , but his eagerness for a KO smothered a lot of
his work and the Polish guy - who took some good shots
- was never in any real danger of folding .
Paul Kier – Looked composed on his pro debut and
gave warhorse Paul Bonson plenty to think about.
Brett Flourney , John Watson and Joe Mc Nally - All
boxed as home time guests on the VIP show and put in
winning performances.
COLNE 30TH MARCH – Chris Johnson
has pulled out with a perforated ear drum and a
replacement will be announced shortly to join the VIP

to conduct his own business – we wish him all the best.
STEPHEN FOSTER JNR – Has pulled out of his rematch
with Derry Mathews and decided that following his good
performance with Alex Arthur that his best weight will
be Super-Featherweight . Hopefully Derry will
grow into a Super-Featherweight in the not to near
future and the contest can be made again , it is one
that Stephen still longs for !!!!.
MICHEAL GOMEZ – Following the withdrawal of Lee
McAllister from there scheduled WBU lightweight contest
Mike has taken another opportunity to fight in Scotland
on the same proposed date. Barry Hughes of Braveheart
promotions has kindly added Gomez onto his show in
Glasgow and he will a 6 round contest. Mike and his team
are gutted at the Lee McAllister ‘COP OUT’ and given his
team until the end of the week to produce a contract for
another date or they will decide to move elsewhere.
28/02/08
MICHAEL GOMEZ –
Contrary to a report on BBN , Mike is fit and ready to
travel to Aberdeen and indeed will do on the 29th
March albeit now only for a 6 round contest and not a
WBU challenge that he was preparing for. Due to bout of
flue , Lee McAllister cannot make the 9stone 9lb limit
and will now be boxing at a higher weight ,we have been
assured that the fight will happen on the next show and
subject to everything being OK will be there again.
MARK THOMPSON –
Will next box on the 26th
April at the George Carnell centre in Manchester, where
he will top the bill for a master title. The VIP show
will be supported by Alex Matvienko , John Kay’s , Brian
Rose plus 4 other new VIP signings who will all be
making there debuts – more news next week.
TONY QUIGLEY –
Is off the Everton park bill on Sunday the 16th
March with a cut eye after being attacked by a group of
men last weekend in Birmingham supporting his younger
brother at an amateur show. Joe McNally has stepped in
on the show which is starting to sell well - tickets
are available at the venue or from any of the competing
boxers.
RICK GODDINS –
Is to be out for 8 weeks after breaking his thumb in his
last bout at Blackpool

16TH February
show at Blackpool tower circus
VIP
started the year 2008 with a cracking show at the sold
out Blackpool Tower which generated a magic atmosphere
and we cannot wait to go back there , results were as
follows :-
BRIAN ROSE –Blackpool’s local hero showed great
character to win the last 3 rounds against Manoocheri
Salari and force a draw from a fight that looked lost
after the opening 3 of this 6 x 3 top of the bill
contest. Brian started very slow and it looked like the
occasion had got to him ,when he was caught with a solid
shot which had his legs gone at the end of the second
there did not look anyway back. However, after
regrouping in the 3rd he finally got a spring
in his step and turn the fight round working well
behind good jabs which deservedly saw him get a share of
the spoils – he will be a better fighter because of
this.#
JACK ANFIELD –The 18 year old moved to 4-0 with a
shut out points victory . It was a solid mature
performance against the very experienced David Kirk who
had to use all his ring craft to survive the steady and
accurate pressure of Arnfield who varied his punches
very well and looks one to watch.
ALEX MATVIENKO – The one man riot did not fail again
with a 2nd round stoppage of Davy Jones. This
was developing into another classic punch up with both
fighters going for it when suddenly Alex caught Jones
with a left hook on the way out of a clinch and it was
all over.
RICHARD GODDINS- Showed a great improvement from his
debut and moved to 2-0 with a very tidy exhibition of
punch picking which left the journeyman Senol Dervis
outclassed in every round and lucky to see the final
bell.
JON KAYS – Moved to 4-0 with a sound points win over
Steve Gethin who took some nice shots without ever
looking in trouble.
CHRIS JOHNSON – Like the Mattvienko fight this was
another dust up with the Mancunian Dave Murray coming to
fight and looking for a win. Up to the 5th
round there was little in the contest but like Alex ,
Chris found a crisp shot on the jaw of Murray coming out
of a heated exchange and the ref was quick to jump in
and stop the fight as Chris began to pummel Murray on
the ropes.
MARTIN MURRAY – Cheered on by a massive following
Martin forced the fight for the whole 6 rounds but never
looked like getting the stoppage against Dean Walker
who is a master of the spoiling game and managed to tie
Murray up for most of the fight. It was a sound if not
spectacular performance on the back of a hand injury and
will have knocked some ring rust off for his next
performance which will be in Liverpool on the 16th
March.
DANNY HARDING – Weighed in 6lb over the agreed 10st
2lb and his opponent Baz Carey choose not to give the
weight away and therefore the 8th fight of
the night did not happen , fortunately the crowd were
served a treat of boxing and this was not missed.
05/02/08

MARK THOMPSON –
Had a near punch perfect performance last Friday halting
the normally durable Darren Gethin in 2 rounds .
The board of control have suspended Mark from
challenging for the British title in a voluntary for the
next 12 months ,although it was stated that it is
possible that he could be made the mandatory challenger
???? – Presuming that this will not happen ,we will be
pushing the Commonwealth route and expect to fight the
winner of Craig Watson and his mandatory challenger
Philip Kotey.

DANNY HARDING –
Seems his luck has changed a little -
whilst packing for a trip to Portugal to accompany Carl
Johansson as his training partner ,we were informed that
Jeff Thomas had withdrew from the Blackpool event with a
strained back and Danny will now step in to
fight Baz Carey on the show.
GARY DAVIES -
Has pulled out of the Liverpool show with a damaged hand
and therefore will have to wait until May for his VIP
debut.
CHANNEL M – All
systems are go for the first VIP filming of the sold out
Blackpool event on the 16th March which will
be shown delayed. Meanwhile to wet the appetite they
will be showing highlights this weekend of our last 2
shows of 2007 , tune in at 7pm Saturday for the Colne
show and 7pm Sunday for the Bolton ‘Jolly Boys’ event.
28/01/08
ALI NUUMBEMBE –Flew home last Friday and will
continue his boxing career in Namibia with a proposed
contest due in March , our best wishes go with him.
TYRONE NURSE – The talented 18 year from Yorkshire
is the first signing of the year for VIP who expect him
to develop alongside young Jack Arnfield and be ready to
contest titles in 3 years when the grand old age of 21
is reached.
DANNY HARDING – Bad luck has struck again for Danny
with Lee Cook breaking his nose and therefore the
proposed match up for this Friday is off. VIP are
urgently trying to sort a fight out for Danny who has
trained all over Christmas and the New year .
EVERTON SPORTS HALL – The 2nd show of
2008 for VIP has now been set for the 16th
March in Liverpool and will feature Mark Moran , Tony
Quigley , Brett Flourney , Carl Dilks , Martin Murray ,
Paul Kier , John Watson and Gary Davies.
BACKPOOL SHOW - The boxers have now confirmed that
this is a sell out with 3 weeks to go , it is expected
that the Liverpool show will go the same way so get your
tickets early next week when they go on sale.

man riot always brings a crowd and excitement to a

lad who took a large contingent from the Green Barn

his impressive start as a pro and move to 4-0 , took

24/11/07
RESULTS FROM JOLLY BOYS 2007
The VIP Christmas boxing show was
again a sell out and enjoyed by all the lads who have
their XMAS party at this event, boxing results :-
JOHN KAYS –
Put in his best performance of his
pro career to stop Craig O’Neile from Leeds in the 2nd
round with some polished punch picking that just opened
up a game effort by Craig. The small stocky battler from
Leeds was second to everything and John was not missing
with his shots and a busted eye saw the corner show some
Christmas passion and they through the towel in near the
end of the second.
CHRIS JOHNSON –
Chris continues to build on
since his debut loss and moved to 6-1 yesterday with a 4th
round stoppage over the normally durable Steve Cooper. A
tentative start by Chris changed in the 3rd
when he upped the pace and aggression and was soon
hurting the Birmingham boy with jabs and straight lefts
which were making effects , it was not going to be long
to the stoppage and the referee waved it off in the 4th
to ensure that Cooper took no further punishment.
RICK GODDIN –
Got off to a winning start in his pro debut with a
points win over Kristain Laight. The ex England junior
had not boxed for over 3 years and was very nervous in
the early round which were close, but once Rick settled
he showed some tricky moves and deserved the win.
NIGEL TRAVIS
- The 36 year old fireman who had a distinguished
amateur career finished his 1 year stint as a Pro with a
loss to Jamie Ambler. The years and work commitments
showed in this contest and Nigel looked tired after
wining the first two rounds, he just plodded in the next
4 and Jamie Ambler was a deserved winner as he sensed
the strength from Nigel had gone and worked hard for all
the rounds.
